BEVERLY, Mass. - In Saturday's New England Bowl, Western New England defeated UMass Dartmouth, 37-7, in Springfield, Massachusetts.
The Golden Bears scored a safety with 6:48 to play in the first quarter and took that lead into the fifth minute of the third quarter when the Corsairs found the end zone and a 7-3 lead. It was all WNE from that point on as the Golden Bears went on to score five unanswered touchdowns.
Western New England senior Jake Chiasson earned the game's MVP award with his 10 total tackles, four tackles for loss, two sacks and a forced fumble. He paced a defense that sacked UMass Dartmouth quarterback Dante Aviles-Santos five times and held the Corsairs to just 153 yards of offense.
The Golden Bears ground attack totaled 311 yards and all five touchdowns. Senior running back Dillon Kohl and senior quarterback Conrad Swanson each had 100+ yard outings and both ran for two touchdowns.
