Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Awards Announced

BEVERLY, Mass. – On Tuesday, the Commonwealth Coast Conference announced the 2024 Men’s and Women’s Track and Field awards winners. Honorees are selected by a vote of the league’s head coaches based on regular-season play.

Men’s Awards Winners
Track Athlete of the Year: Nathan Tassey, Roger Williams University, Sophomore (Whitman, Mass.)
  • won the CCC 1,500 meters with a time of 3:59.67 which qualifies for New England Championships
  • Won the CCC 5,000 meters with a time of 14:43.35 which qualifies for New England Championships and ranks 13th regionally
  • 10,000-meter time of 29:50.95 ranks 22nd nationally
Field Athlete of the Year: Sam Bielawa, Roger Williams University, Junior (Portsmouth, R.I.)
  • won the CCC long jump with a mark of 21-20 / 6.65m which qualifies for New England Championships
  • won the CCC triple jump with a mark of 45-10.5 / 13.98m, moving him to sixth in New England and tied for 45th in the country
Track Rookie of the Year: Dylan Beggins, Roger Williams University, Freshman (Bay Shore, N.Y.)
  • earned a runner-up finish in the CCC 800 meters, moving up to 23rd in New England
  • earned a bronze finish in the CCC 1,500 meters 
  • also a member of the 4x400-meter relay that finished second at the CCC Championships and ranks 18th in New England
Field Rookie of the Year: Enrique Maldonado, Roger Williams University, Freshman (Taunton, Mass.)
  • collected a runner-up finish in the CCC discus with a throw of 133-8 / 40.76m, qualifying him for New England Championships
  • placed fourth in the CCC shot put with a throw of 37-6.5 / 11.44m
Scholar-Athlete of the Year: Adam Horwitz, Roger Williams University, Senior (Winchester, Mass.)

Team Sportsmanship Award: Wentworth Institute of Technology

Women’s Awards Winners
Track Athlete of the Year: Rachel Brennan, Gordon College, Senior (Lynn, Mass.)
  • CCC Champion in the 5,000 meters and 1,500 meters
  • best in the 10,000 meters (35:16.00) ranks 12th nationally and third in New England
  • best in the 5,000 meters (17:03.77) ranks 31st nationally and fifth in New England 
  • best in the 1,500 meters (4:41.71) ranks 81st nationally and 18th in New England
  • all three marks are lifetime bests
Field Athlete of the Year: Kinneal Dickens, Endicott College, Junior (Merrimac, Mass.)
  • defended her titles in the CCC long and triple jumps, earning first-team All-CCC honors
  • improved her own school record in the triple jump at the 2024 Snowflake Classic (33-10.25 / 10.32m) which she bettered at the CCC Championships (34-3 / 10.44m)
  • ranked 20th and 21st in the East Region in the triple jump and long jump, respectively (as of April 28, 2024)
  • also placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles at the CCC Championships
Track Rookie of the Year: Alexa Suchy, Endicott College, Freshman (Guilford, Conn.)
  • collected the silver medal and named second-team All-CCC in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the CCC Championships
  • fifth at the CCC Championships in the 800 meters with a personal best time (2:31:06)
  • top ranked rookie in the CCC in the 800 meters, 1,500 meters and 3,000-meter steeplechase (TFRRS data)
  • set a school record in the steeplechase at the Jonathan Tymann Invitational (12:11.97), which she bettered at the CCC Championship to 11:54.85
Field Rookie of the Year: Alivia Geraghty, Gordon College, Freshman (Barkhamsted, Conn.)
  • best mark in the hammer came at the CCC Championships, throwing 152-6 / 46.48m to win the event; mark ranks fourth among Division III female freshmen and ranks 88th nationally overall
  • finished in the top 10 in every hammer competition this season
  • picked up discus this year and finished sixth at the CCC Championships, throwing her personal best of 106-3 / 32.40m
Scholar-Athlete of the Year: Hannah Risko, Endicott College, Senior (Albany, N.Y.)
  • graduating in May 2024 with a degree in finance (3.93 grade point average); five-time member of the CCC Academic All-Conference Team
  • Sigma Beta Delta Business Honor Society; works as a peer tutor in finance
  • volunteered at Frates 5K, Ronald McDonald House Charity and youth sports organizations
  • 2024 All-CCC First-Team in the 800 meters, All-CCC Second-Team in the 1,500 meters and All-CCC Third-Team in the 5,000 meters
  • qualified for the 2024 New England Championships in the 800, 1,500, and 5K – only one of four student-athletes in the East Region to hit the qualifying standard for all three events
  • at every competition this outdoor season, set a new personal best in at least one of the events in which she competed; set and improved school records in the 800, 1,500 and 5K
Coach of the Year: Spencer Lange, Endicott College
  • Endicott defended its team title with 152 points scored
  • the Gulls collected four event wins, seven silver medals and four third-place performances
  • Endicott’s breakdown of points: sprints (19), hurdles (24), distance (44), throws (eight), jumps (43) and relays (14)

The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC), founded in 1984, is an NCAA Division III athletic conference composed of 10 full member and two associate member institutions throughout the New England region. Its membership aims to provide student-athletes with a positive experience in their pursuit of excellence through high academic standards, quality competition and a meaningful student life. The Conference administers Championships in 20 intercollegiate sports.
