BEVERLY, Mass. — The No. 9 Endicott women's ice hockey team dropped a hard-fought contest to No. 12 Nazareth, 4-2, in NCAA Tournament First Round action on Saturday evening at Raymond J. Bourque Arena.
Tied 2-2 midway through the third period, UCHC Co-Player and Rookie of the Year Amy Laskowski (Hinsdale, Ill.) buried her 15th goal of the season with a wrist shot from the left faceoff circle through traffic to break the deadlock.
Laskowski also potted the all-important insurance goal at the 18:43 mark to lift Nazareth to its first NCAA Tournament win in program history.
Endicott held two separate leads in the contest (1-0, 1st | 2-1, 2nd) before the Golden Flyers scored three unanswered to earn a spot in the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinal Round next weekend against No. 4 Middlebury.
Gracyn Kurrle (Middlesex, Vt.) opened the scoring in the matchup for the Gulls as the freshman stuffed home a loose puck in front of the crease just 4:45 into play. Ella Rago (Westford, Mass.) and Lilly Corso (Winchester, Mass.) were credited with assists.
In the second period, Jenna Seibold (Reading, Mass.) pushed Endicott ahead once again, 2-1, when she sniped a shot high blocker side from the left point at the 5:10 mark. Lily Anderson (St. Paul, Minn.) won the faceoff back to the right point for Tara Henshaw (Babylon, N.Y.) who swiftly slid the puck over to Seibold for the wide-open shot, which was aided by a Jo Wimler (Portland, Conn.).
The Golden Flyers responded once more, this time at the 16:11 mark, setting the stage for Laskowski's pair of tallies in the third.
In goal, Lauren Ferrari (Bridgewater, N.J.) made 26 saves in the defeat, wrapping up the season with an 8-2-1 record.
