Beer Selected to Participate in NCAA DIII SWA Program

BEVERLY, Mass. — Conference of New England (CNE) Associate Commissioner Julie Beer has been selected to participate in the NCAA Division III Senior Woman Administrator Program. Beer is the first conference office administrator in the 40-plus years of the CNE to be selected for the program. She will be attending the program in person from Oct. 10-14 in Kansas City.

“I am honored to be selected to attend the NCAA Senior Woman Administrator Convention,” said Beer. “This gathering is not only a chance to learn and grow, but also a reminder of how vital it is to support and empower women in leadership roles. I look forward to bringing back new ideas and perspective to better serve our student-athletes, coaches, and institutions.”

At the recommendation of the Division III Diversity and Inclusion Working Group, in 2016, the NCAA governance staff partnered with Women Leaders in Sports to offer a new professional development opportunity for Division III Senior Woman Administrators (SWAs).  Annually, Division III provides funding for 30 SWAs to attend a division-specific program. The program will alternate being held in conjunction with the annual Women Leaders in Sports Convention (October) and the NCAA Inclusion Forum (April).

The program’s goal is to provide professional development and networking opportunities for SWAs, in particular those seeking to become athletics directors and/or conference commissioners.  Topics discussed will cover a variety of professional development topics that may include preparing your resume and cover letter for the athletics director search, networking, budgeting, positioning yourself to become an athletics director, the presidents perspective, working with and collaborating with athletics directors, and discussing the SWA’s current role and responsibilities.

In addition to the scheduled Division III specific programming, participants will be registered to attend the Women Leaders in Sports Convention or the NCAA Inclusion Forum depending on the host site of the program.  All participants will receive a year’s membership to Women Leaders in Sports.
