Endicott Punches Ticket To Championship Round Behind Resilient Effort

BEVERLY, Mass. — The first-seeded Endicott softball team split a pair of games against second-seeded Roger Williams (L, 2-1) and fifth-seeded Hartford (W, 13-3, 5 inn.) in the Conference of New England (CNE) Semifinals on Friday evening at the Softball Complex.

Endicott will now play Roger Williams in the CNE Championship round on Sunday, May 10, at 11 AM, needing two victories to secure the CNE Championship (if necessary game, 30 minutes after).

The Hawks need one win to hoist the CNE Championship, as Roger Williams enters play on Sunday as the only remaining undefeated team (2-0) in the double-elimination tournament.

GAME ONE: Roger Williams 2, Endicott 1

WP (11-4): Keira Quadros (East Providence, R.I.) — 7 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K
LP (7-5): Analise Grady (Reading, Mass.) — 2.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K

Roger Williams (26-13) struck first in the contest when Grace Forsythe (Woburn, Mass.) launched a solo shot over the left field fence in the third.

The Gulls countered in the fourth, as Abby McClaflin (Easthampton, Mass.) and Kylyn McLaren (Rochester, N.H.) traded places with back-to-back doubles to tie things up.

In the sixth, the Hawks responded with two straight singles to lead off the frame before an eventual sacrifice fly to right field from Kayleigh O'Connor (Southington, Conn.) spelled the difference in the contest.

GAME TWO: Endicott 13, Hartford 3 (5 inn.)

WP (8-5): Analise Grady (Reading, Mass.) — 3 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
LP (8-9): Carly Mayhood (Ellington, Conn.) — 1 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 1 K

Endicott posted crooked numbers in every inning but the fifth to defeat Hartford (21-20) and earn a spot in the CNE Championship round of the tournament.

In the first, McLaren, Maddie Beeley (Salem, N.H.), and Ella Tower (Windham, N.H.) all drove in runs with RBI base knocks, while Catherine Seay (Marlborough, Mass.) worked a bases loaded walk to close out the four-run opening frame.

Seay also notched a two-run single in the second (6-1) before the trio of McLaren (1B), Beeley (2B), and Tower (1B) all plated solo runs in the third (9-1).

The Gulls also saw a run come across on an error in the third.

McLaren and Beeley rounded out the scoring with a two-run double and an RBI groundout to short in the fourth.
