NCAA REGIONALS: No. 9/11 Endicott Heads To Montclair State For Regional Round

MONTCLAIR, N.J. — Coming off of last weekend's Conference of New England (CNE) Championship run, the No. 9/11 nationally ranked Endicott baseball team opens NCAA Tournament play as the one seed in the Montclair State Regional.

The Gulls open up their tournament campaign with an 11 AM matchup against fourth-seeded Husson. Here's an inside look at the Montclair State Regional:

FIVE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Endicott (Conference of New England), Husson (North Atlantic Conference) and Whitworth (Northwest Conference) won their respective conference tournaments, which earned them automatic bids into the NCAA Tournament. Montclair State received an at-large bid, despite falling to William Paterson in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) quarterfinals.
  • The Gulls lead the pack with a National Power Index (NPI) of 59.280 (13th nationally). The Gulls are followed by Montclair State (58.982, 16th), then Whitworth (56.940, 41st), and Husson (50.326, 192) rounds out the pack.
  • The Blue and Green enter the Regional with arguably the best pitching staff out of the four teams. Endicott ranks first in DIII in WHIP (1.06), shutouts (11), and hits allowed per nine innings (6.34). The Gulls pitching staff also comes in at fourth nationally in the ERA (2.87) and strikeout-to-walk ratio (2.95) categories.
  • Conversely, Montclair State and Whitworth feature some of the premiere offenses in DIII. The Red Hawks rank fifth in batting average (.354), 10th in OBP (.462), and 12th in runs per game (10.2). Meanwhile, the Bucs hit 53 homers this season, which ranks 13th in DIII. 
  • Husson is 10-15 away from its home field this season. The Eagles are 14-1 at home this year.
