BEVERLY, Mass. – The Conference of New England announced their 2024 Women’s Vollyeball Postseason Awards on Wednesday afternoon. Leading the way taking home four of the five major awards were the top-seeded Endicott Gulls – who sported the league’s Player, Libero, and Rookie of the Year.
Player of the Year – Hadley Helenbrook, Endicott
Helenbrook had a breakthrough year for the Gulls, as the multiple-time CNE Player of the Week leads the conference and nation in Kills and Points per set. She is currently ranked first in the nation with 4.99 kps and 5.63 pps. In Endicott’s over nationally-ranked Trinity, she lead the team with 27 kills while hitting .321. Against Wentworth, Helenbrook recorded 36 kills – a match record in NCAA Division III in 2024 and a new CNE single-match record.
Libero of the Year - Emma Ruel, Endicott
A fierce defender, Ruel has been a standout for the Gulls this season. She is ranked in the top five in digs per set. She had a match-high 25 digs against Western New England earlier this season, while also putting up five service aces against Maine Maritime.
Rookie of the Year - Hannah Maguire, Endicott
The newcomer to the Endicott lineup, Maguire helped the Gulls to their 9-0 conference season as the offense ran through her at setter. She leads the CNE with 10.64 assists per set, as the Guls are hitting a CNE high .234. She is solid on the defensive side of the ball, putting up 13 double-doubles with assists and digs while also averaging 0.37 blocks per set as well.
Scholar Athlete of the Year - Annie Murphy, Gordon
Murphy is a four-year honor student at Gordon with a 3.85 GPA. She studied abroad at Oxford last semester and came back with a 4.0 GPA. She is a two-time CSC Regional Scholar winner and is in the Psychology Honors Society Psi Chi as the Co-President of the Gordon chapter. She is currently a research fellow for the past two semesters.
On the court, she recently reached the 1,000 Kills mark and will finish her career as a four-time CNE All-Conference player (three First Team selections). She is 45th in the nation in Blocks per set and leads the Conference in that category. She is also top four in Blocks, Kills, Hitting % and Points.
Co-Coaches of the Year - Tim Byram, Endicott / Danielle Davis, Roger Williams
Byram led the Gulls to a perfect 9-0 season in CNE play, ultimately leading them to an improvement from last year's 15-14 overall record to currently 20-7 and top seed in the 2024 CNE Women’s Volleyball Championship.
After a 9-16 and 3-5 mark in league play last season, Davis brought the Hawks to a much-improved 16-11 overall record and 6-3 mark in the CNE. Roger Williams earned the No. 3 seed in the CNE Championship, and defeated No. 6 UNE in the opening round on Tuesday.
