WINDSOR, CT - History was made this weekend at Keney Park Golf Course in Windsor, Connecticut, as the inaugural Conference of New England Women’s Golf Championship crowned its first-ever team and individual champions. Under clear fall skies, the Suffolk University Rams completed a wire-to-wire victory to capture the league’s first women’s golf title, following up their Day 1 342 (+62) with a 353 (+73) on Sunday to finish with a two-day total of 695 (+135). The Rams held off a steady charge from the University of Hartford (711, +151) and a late push by Nichols College (750, +190) to secure their place in CNE history.
Suffolk’s lineup showed impressive depth, as Krisna Mahendran followed her opening 82 with another 82 (+12) to stay near the top of the individual leaderboard. Brooke Bugajewski (84, +14) and Emory Goodson (86, +16) delivered crucial rounds to anchor the championship-clinching total. The Rams’ consistency throughout the weekend proved to be the difference, as they became the first program to etch their name onto the CNE Women’s Golf Championship trophy.
The battle for the individual championship delivered the most thrilling moment of the tournament. After 36 holes, three players were tied atop the leaderboard at 163 (+23)—Abby Flanagan (U. New England, 83–81), Amanda Forziati (U. New England, 82–82), and Krisna Mahendran (Suffolk, 82–82)—forcing not one, but two tiebreakers to decide the title. On the par-3 18th hole, Flanagan delivered the shot of the weekend, sinking a dramatic birdie putt to capture the first-ever CNE Women’s Individual Championship.
